Three bills are currently making their way through the New Jersey State Senate that would adversely affect our workforce. Bills S603 and S54/A3821 would bring smart meters to New Jersey. On March 5th, I was joined by our First Vice President Michael Garcia, in Trenton where I spoke before the Chairman of the Environment and Energy Committee. I have included my testimony below. I also met with Senator Troy Singleton who sponsored S54. At that meeting I was joined by Garcia, Lee Herbert, Buddy Thoman President of IBEW Local and NJ AFL-CIO Legislative Director Eric Richards. After our conversation, Singleton has agreed to hold the bill, but has not yet removed it from consideration. S603 is also stalled while they wait on the results of a smart meter pilot program that is being conducted with Rockland Electric Territory. While both of these bills are stalled for the time being, we need all of our members to be prepared to lobby our local elected officials on the danger of smart meters. Please continue to check future BLOODLiNES for updates.
