As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, I am reminded of the first Thanksgiving. In Plymouth Massachusetts, Native Americans and Pilgrims came together to share a harvest feast. Both sides, while vastly different cultures, spent the day enjoying and sharing the fruits of their labor. While Thanksgiving has been celebrated throughout the history of the country, it wasn’t until the Civil War that President Lincoln made it an official holiday on the last Thursday in November. This time the holiday was tasked with bringing together a divided and warring nation. This is a holiday that has always brought families together to share the fruits of their labor and to say thank you for all the positive things that they have been afforded. This Thanksgiving, I am thankful to all of you. It is because of you that this union exists and is strong. Your skills, work in the community, and work during the election makes me proud every day to be a part of and lead such a great local. I want to wish all of you and your families a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving.
