Labor Joins in Support of Aimee Belgard for Congress

Wednesday, September 17, 2014

Dozens of union leaders joined together this morning for a special breakfast in support of 3rd District Congressional Candidate Aimee Belgard, who was endorsed by the 1 million-member New Jersey State AFL-CIO in June. Today’s breakfast was sponsored by the New Jersey State AFL-CIO, the Burlington County Central Labor Council, the Monmouth/Ocean Central Labor Council, and the International Longshoremen's Association.

As a Burlington County Freeholder, Belgard has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to fighting for working families by focusing on job creation, raising wages, and promoting access to an affordable quality education. In fact, Belgard was a leading advocate for raising New Jersey’s minimum wage last year. On the other hand, Belgard’s opponent is against raising the minimum wage and even opposes the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would help to ensure men and women receive equal pay for equal work.

Like most of us, Belgard is tired of the obstruction in Congress and the disastrous impact it has had on average working families, who despite working harder than ever continue to see their standard of living eroded. Belgard understands that the healthiest economy is one that benefits all of us, not just the wealthy.

Whether it is standing up for Medicare and Social Security or economic fairness for workers, Belgard will make it her priority to ensure that we build consensus and deliver results for our state.

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO is proud to support a leader who shares our middle class values and who will fight to promote economic opportunity, mobility, and justice for all working families.
